So maybe, just maybe, we haven't gotten around to decorating our Christmas tree yet, and we hope our sincere apologies will be accepted by the gods of Seasonal Spirit and General Festiveness. You see, it's our lack of a suitable decoration collection that stops our hand each time we attempt to hang another nondescript red bulb (supplied in kmart's boxes of 12 ornaments for $5). How, then, to infuse some character into our sad little fern?
Our big holiday preparation project for this week is building our very first gingerbread house, complete with licorice paths, red hot string lights, and Hershey's chocolate roof tile. If there are kids in your life, this is (of course) the perfect family project. If, like us, you're a touch short on six year old comrades, invite over some 21+ friends for spiked egg nog and Christmas tree decorating. The finished gingerbread chateau will not only make a fabulous centerpiece...it will be a tasty treat to scarf for dessert. 
By now everyone has seen vintage signage used to decorate the home in magazines like Domino or Elle Decor, but more often than not those pieces are randomly accrued antiques--not that that's a bad thing, but we prefer our vintage buys to have some kind of personal connection to place or time.
It could be the recession that's brought on this industrial home trend, but judging by the time and effort some of these projects can take, we tend to doubt it.
